Charles Fréger

Born in Bourges in 1975, Charles Fréger completed his studies at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Rouen in 2000. His photographs portray people who are members of social groups, whether by way of profession, education, special interests or shared experiences. Despite uniform-like dress and often similar postures – as can be seen in his portraits of young water polo players, beauty pageant contestants, wrestlers, and college students – Fréger nevertheless succeeds at showing his models as individual personalities. His photos form series of portraits that subtly decode the subjective manifestations of collective identities.
