30 Years. A Curator's Choice

EXHIBITION Dec 21, 2006 — Feb 17, 2007

The Kicken Gallery celebrates its thirtieth anniversary with an exhibition selected by Janos Frecot, one of Europe’s leading photography curators. During his museum career Frecot built the renowned photography collection at the Berlinische Galerie. Today he works as an independent author and curator
and is a consultant for the photography collection at the Albertina Museum in Vienna.
For “30 YEARS. A Curator´s Choice“ Frecot decided to select thirty photographs from the gallery’s inventory, drawing not only on works by such celebrated photographers as Eugene Atget, Diane Arbus, Helmut Newton, Umbo and Wols but also on photographs by lesser known artists, among them forgotten
figures of the Bauhaus era and contemporary photographers like Joachim Brohm. “30 YEARS. A Curator´s Choice“ thus offers both a very personal and a surprising perspective on the Kicken Gallery’s history, its exhibitions, and its holdings.
To mark its thirtieth anniversary, the Kicken Gallery has published the book "Points of View", which comprises more than 140 seminal work in the history of photography.
